2020 MAKB: Charles River (Again)

Massachusetts
August 1st 6:00 am - August 1st 2:30 pm Eastern, 2020 • 1 Day Tourney

For the the fifth Massachusetts Kayak Bassin' event of 2020, and to continue practicing good social-distancing, we will once again be fishing the Charles River!

Yes, again. Normally we don't double-dip like this, but this particular event was part of our original schedule. We added the previous event we fished here this season to make up for canceled events caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This will be an online event, with no pre- or post-event gathering. Everything will be done online to adhere to social-distancing requirements and guidelines.

This one will also run concurrently with the KBF Trail event that we are now running. These are separate events; you do not need to fish both.

There will also be a second KBF Trail event on Sunday, August 2, if that interests you.

See the notes at the end of this description for important details!

For those unfamiliar,  a roadrunner event means that you are allowed to launch at any public access location between the event boundaries, which for this event will be the Walker Street bridge in Medway and the Museum of Science* in Boston.

* On July 27, the Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Charles River Watershed Association recommended that we mark the easternmost section of the Charles as off-limits due to a cyanobacteria bloom.

Sometime on July 29, the DPH lifted that health advisory. So that last mile or so of the river is in bounds once again.

Within those boundaries, you are allowed to fish all connected rivers, tributaries, and ponds to the first impassable obstacle (dam, culvert, waterfall, etc.). No portaging around these obstacles allowed.

If you launch in an area where other anglers are launching, please wear masks and maintain your distance from them.

Watercraft permitted for use during competition are limited to kayaks, canoes, or similar crafts propelled by paddle, pedal, or electric motor.

No gasoline-powered boats, sailboats, john boats, float tube, pontoon boat, or similar craft will be permitted.

Since there is a concurrent KBF Trail event taking place at the same time and folks are double-dipping, the pre-fishing deadline will be 11:59 PM Friday night, to match KBFs deadline.

Early Launch: 5:30 AM

Tournament Hours: 6 AM to 2 PM

Photo Upload Deadline: 2:30 PM

Entry Fee: $50 *
Optional Pickerel Lunker Fee: $10

* Approximately $7 from all entry fees goes toward paying TourneyX and PayPal fees.

As a proud Kayak Bass Fishing partner, MAKB has adopted Kayak Bass Fishing's Competition Rules Standards. However, we do a few things differently, which you can read in our Rules Addendum.

All anglers are expected to read, understand, and adhere to these rules.

Special Notes for This Event:

1. The three-digit identifier code will be randomly generated and go live on TourneyX on Friday, July 31, at 8 PM. It will also be e-mailed and posted on Facebook.

2. Anyone caught fishing prior to 6 AM will disqualified and banned from all future events. No exceptions.

3. Please use the Check-In/Check-Out feature on the TourneyX PRO app before you launch and when you leave.

4. As some anglers will be fishing both our event and the KBF Trail event, we will allow anglers to leave and move to a new location during the event.

5. The standings will be turned off at noon, two hours before the end of the event. Submissions will be judged that evening and the winner will be announced Sunday afternoon.

6. If you enter the optional pickerel lunker pool, please upload all pickerel to TourneyX as you would a bass, but choose Chain Pickerel for the fish type when submitting.

All pickerel submissions will be denied to remove them from the main standings. They are still visible for judging, however.

7. You may use fish grips while measuring pickerel (only pickerel). Just make sure the grips do not block where the nose of the fish touches the fence of the measuring board.

We will also not deduct for mouths open on pickerel. If there is a tie, anglers will split the pool evenly.

8. Anglers are not allowed to fish with non-competitors. Leave your friends at home.

9. If you fish both our event and the KBF Trail event, please remember that KBF's minimum bass length is 12 inches, while ours is 8 inches.
